zu Nutzung und Weiterentwicklung braucht man das Powershot-SDK-Paket. Dieses Programm wurde aber von Canon nach erscheinen der G9 und SX110 eingestellt. Der Entwickler von CuteCanonCapture hat darauf hin seine Entwicklung ebenfalls eingestellt. Das Paket war im übrigen auch nur für ausgewählte Kameras verfügbar.

Das Entwickler-Paket hat Windows nur bis zum OS XP unterstützt.

Q1.Why has Canon stopped developing an SDK for PowerShot digital cameras?
A1. Canon's aim is to develop a full range of high quality digital cameras that meet the requirements of the majority of the market. Unfortunately it is no longer possible for us to support SDK activity for our PowerShot digital cameras, however we will continue to support software developers with our Digital EOS cameras for the foreseeable future.

Q2. Will a PowerShot SDK be released supporting Windows Vista or Windows 7?
A2. The current PowerShot SDK supports the following OS only: Windows 98SE, Windows ME, Windows 2000 SP4, Windows XP. Unfortunately there is no plan to release an SDK for PowerShot digital cameras supporting Windows Vista or later operating systems.

Q3. For how long will the current PowerShot SDK be available to download?
A3. Developers will still be able to register and gain access to the PowerShot SDK during the lifespan of the current supported products (PowerShot G10, PowerShot SX110 IS). After this date, we will issue a further announcement.

Fazit: Interessantes Programm, das aber nicht weiterentwickelt werden kann und somit unbrauchbar ist.
